Dear

We regret to tell you our father John Harold Lohmann died at about 2 pm, on 2 January 2002, age 72.

Following his stroke (massive brain haemorrhage) in September 1997 at his home in St. Leonards-on-sea, he has resided in a hospital then nursing home. He made every effort to get well enough to return home. He regained memory, speech, reading, and some arm movement, but did not quite achieve walking.

Dads health deteriorated since September last year, however the last two Saturdays with him before Christmas he had good quality days out with Andrew which included good food and wine in both Hastings and Uckfield.

Avril was with dad on the day he died. Dad was trying to talk, but Avril reassured him that Andrew and herself were both OK. It was suggested he have a sleep – he replied “forever” and then died peacefully with a smile in the next hour or so.

A woodland burial at Hastings Cemetery to take place on 16 January 2002 at 1:45pm. Donations gratefully received to National Trust and Oxfam c/o:-

About the Funeral

How To Get there:

Entering Hastings from the A21 go under the road bridge and turn right to the A259, you turn right at the T-junction and head east (this is The Ridge). Go past the (Conquest) Hospital on the right, Hastings cemetery is on the left and an old stone wall faces the road. There is no sign for the Cemetery until you reach the gate, so you can very easily go past the entrance.

We meet in the Cemetery chapel waiting room before 1:45pm. At the chapel

there will be opportunity to read or have read or say anything you may think appropriate – it could be what our father got up to when he was 20! Poetry etc. Please advise us as soon as possible if you wish 2 minutes to do any of these.

Later we can walk or drive to the woodland burial area which is at the north-east corner of the cemetery. After the burial we would have tea, cake etc. in Hastings. For the catering, please advise as soon as possible if you wish to join us.
